Happy New Year!

We've had a fun couple of days. Sunday we went to a new church and then to Uncle Dusty and Aunt Kim's house. They were having a party to celebrate the new year. That was fun and Annika had a great time chasing the dog and observing the other kids. We had to leave early as we had invited over our neighbors. Our neighbors to our left and the ones across the street were both able to join us. It was great to get to know them a little better. J and W across the street have a 2 1/2 year old boy, Z, and a 7 month old daugher, D. I'm so glad Annika will have play friends nearby! A and K, our next door neighbors, are newly weds and have no children. I think we're going to get along well with them all. W and I are even thinking of having a garage sale together this spring. If you have anything you want to get rid of, let me know!

Annika went down very normally that evening, falling asleep around 7:45pm. When I went to bed about 2 hours later, she woke up. This is very uncharacteristic of her. She was awake for the next 4 hours. There was crying, frustration and finally playing. Two hours into the 4, I told Kris, who was still up trying to play a computer game, to just go downstairs and play with her so I could get some sleep. I was exhausted by this point. Two hours later they came back up and Kris tried putting her to sleep again. More crying ensued. I got up and rocked her in the glider and she fell asleep. Afraid to lay her down in her crib, I brought her to bed with me. After some fitful sleep, she didn't wake for the day until 8:30am. I guess she just woke up wide awake and wanted to play for a couple hours. She still has a cold so that could have been part of it too. I'm thinking about taking her to the doctor for this cold. She's had it since before Christmas and doesn't seem to be getting better yet. And although she has a cough, it doesn't seem to be getting worse. To complicate matters, we switched insurance companies as of the 1st of the year and don't have our new ID cards yet. And, we have switched clinics too!

Yesterday, Annika and I were home all day while Kris was at his parents house putting together a new desk for them. I hope they like it. Mary and Amanda came over and we spent the afternoon chatting and making cookies. It was great girl time. After they left, Annika and I took a nap and Daddy arrived home and started playing a computer game. I got up and Auntie Krystle came over. She brought hers and my scrapbooking supplies so we can start our weekly scrapping night up again. Grandpa Dan and Uncle Mathias joined us after they got off work and we had a nice pizza and college football evening. Annika ended up taking a 2.5 hour nap late in the afternoon so we was up late in the evening enjoying her extended family too.

And now we're back to our normal routines. Maybe this will help Annika get over her cold - a nice, normal routine full of naps and limited outings. I sure hope so!
